Neuropsychological Testing for ADHD, Autism, and Other Cognitive Concerns

🧠 Neuropsychological Testing: What to Ask When You Call

  1. Confirm the Type of Testing
➤ Ask if they specifically evaluate for what you’re seeking (e.g., ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, memory concerns).

  2. Ask About Age Range
➤ Make sure they test people in your (or your child’s) age group.

  3. Check for Specific Tools Used
➤ For autism: Ask if they use gold-standard tools like the ADOS-2.
➤ For ADHD: Ask if they use objective measures (e.g., continuous performance tests) or just interviews/questionnaires.

  4. Ask About Wait Time
➤ Get an estimate of how soon you can be seen and how long it takes to get results.

  5. Check Insurance and Costs
➤ Ask if they accept your insurance or offer self-pay options. Clarify what’s included in the price.

  6. Find Out About Report and Feedback
➤ Ask when and how you’ll receive results, and whether a feedback session is included.

 ⚠️ Important Notes

Online Testing Caution:
Some services offer fully virtual assessments via telehealth or self-paced formats. While convenient, they may not be as comprehensive as in-person neuropsychological evaluations—especially for complex needs such as autism, which often require observation-based tools like the ADOS-2.

Always confirm that:

  • The provider evaluates for the specific condition you’re concerned about.

  • The assessment is standardized, diagnostic, and appropriate for your needs.

Note on Limited Online Services:
Testing from quick-assessment platforms (e.g., Done, Cerebral, or similar services) is not accepted by this practice for the purpose of prescribing controlled substances. These evaluations may not meet established clinical or regulatory standards and are often not considered sufficient for comprehensive diagnostic decision-making.
